In November our co-production of The Ladykillers was a sell out at the Playhouse and opened to great Liverpool reviews. Now just opened in the West End at the Gielgud Theatre it continues to garner great national acclaim. One newspaper hailed it “the show of the year”, see what the others thought.

This month the theatres have launched an exciting new project called De-Light that seeks to find the theatre technicians of the future through professional training and development. The project is run by the theatres and funded by Liverpool Primary Care Trust, John Lewis and Riverside Housing.

On Friday 11 November the Liverpool Playhouse will reach its 100th birthday. This mighty milestone will be celebrated with a gala performance of The Ladykillers and the launch of a new book, Liverpool Playhouse: A Theatre and Its City, as well as a series of events throughout the day.

On Thursday 27 October Studio alumni and the Friends of the Liverpool Playhouse attended a special performance of The Swallowing Dark in the newly reopened Playhouse Studio. The friends of the Playhouse have helped fund the Studio as part of the theatre’s 100th Birthday celebrations and a commemorative plaque was also unveiled.

ART Valley, a partnership project between the Everyman & Playhouse Theatres and the Bluecoat, together with Liverpool Youth Services have taken residency in an empty shop unit, known as ‘The Pad’, on Scargreen Avenue in Norris Green since May this year. Groups of young people aged 12 to 18-year-olds from the area have now transformed the unit with dynamic photographs and stop-frame animations films.
