Equity North West Workshops
Equity Northwest are delighted to be working in partnership with the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse to offer some affordable workshops and drop in sessions for artists in the city.
Please note that places are limited, and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so we advise you to book as early as possible.
All workshops (with the exception of the drop – in with Victoria Brazier and The Equity4Women Toolkit session) are priced at £6 per person and are for over 18s only.

The writer/director relationship with Nick Bagnall and Jim Cartwright

In this three-hour workshop Nick and Jim will discuss the relationship between the writer and director on a piece of new writing. They will talk about their journeys, their process, and how they have come together to work collaboratively on various projects. This is going to be a fascinating workshop, led by two of the theatre industries most inspiring creatives. There will be time towards the end for a Q&A session.
Have a coffee with Victoria Brazier your northwest regional Equity representative

Drop in - no booking required
Victoria will be on hand to have a coffee and an informal chat about any issues you might have relating to the entertainment profession, whether you are a behind the scenes creative or an actor. There is no need to book for this informal session. She’d love to hear your thoughts, questions, and concerns about the union or the industry. This is a great opportunity to speak face to face with an extremely experienced actress and member of Equity.
Realising an ancient text for a contemporary audience with Nick Bagnall

Nick has extensive experience of taking classic texts and re-imagining the story for the modern stage. In this three-hour workshop Nick will discuss his process and take two pages from Homers “The Iliad” and discuss how this process might work. This workshop is suitable for any creative as Nick can look at the process from any angle. Nick is also going to work with "The Last Days of Troy" by Simon Armitage. Nick recommends you read "The Last Days of Troy" before you attend the workshop together with the section of "The Illiad" he wants to look at. These will be sent out to you in the week before the 26th. Nick will also bring sections of the script on the day. There will be plenty of time for Q&A’s.

Devising a new piece of theatre with Nick Bagnall

In this day long workshop Nick will take the group on a practical journey from first thoughts about a possible piece of theatre, to performing a short extract at the end of the day to other members of the group. With Nick’s extensive experience of devising, he will be able to discuss all areas of devising, and work with the group in a fun and practical way throughout the day. This workshop is recommended to anyone who wants to create a devised piece of theatre but most importantly, if there is one person show you have to make, bring the idea and we will start the process.
Health and well-being and the Equity Women’s Toolkit with Sarah Lewis and Vicki Adlard

In this workshop Sarah and Vicki will be looking at the massive and very current topic of health and well-being in the creative sector. They will be primarily using the Equity4Womens Toolkit and will give some real-life examples of how you can look after yourself and others. The Toolkit aims to put information you need at your fingertips within three clicks, covering everything from contracts to sexual harassment and bullying, to childcare, to menopause, to tax. It is designed to be an intersectional, inclusive resource and may also have useful information for those who don’t identify as women. Everyone is welcome! There will be time for Q&A’s.
How to produce your own work with Natasha Patel

This workshop is aimed at any creative who wants to produce their own theatre work. In this interactive workshop Tash will take you through the producing process from beginning to end, dealing with topics such as production timelines, tour booking, budgets and finances and the different layers of marketing and communication. Tash will bring her experience of how to engage with theatres and other producers, and there will be time for you to discuss any projects you might currently be working on.
How roleplay works as an income stream with Matthew Field

This workshop is aimed at people who want to learn what roleplay is, or who have been doing roleplay but want to take it to the next level, where they facilitate/coach. The three-hour workshop will take a practical look at some of the tools and techniques used around communication skills work. We will look at the “science” of communication: namely the words we use, our body language, and our tone. We will also look at the impact these have on how successful a conversation can be, or not, depending on how well we communicate. This will be a fun, practical workshop. Please bring a pad and pen in case you want to take any notes.
A practical workshop on how to create a knock-out self-tape with Danny Burns

In this workshop Danny will run a practical session on how set up and film a self-tape. It’s suitable for any actor who wants to learn about self-taping, or for more experienced actors wanting a refresher. He will show you what sort of equipment you will need to film a successful self-tape in your own home and will film and play back a short piece from each person. Please have a short monologue or duologue of no more than one minute prepared. Please bring a copy with you. It can be a piece of your choice ready to film on the day, which you think best shows off your acting skills. If you can be off book that would be great but if not be familiar with it so you can lift it off the page.
