Open days are for people to meet the team and find out more about YEP.
If you're aged 18-25 with an interest in what happens behind the scenes, this group meet weekly on Wednesdays from 2pm-5pm.
Sessions guided by our team of professional artists, give you the opportunity to be practical, creative, understand equipment and explore all aspects of working behind the scenes. You'll learn skills that can contribute to a future career in production arts or simply build confidence and self-esteem.
It is free and you don't need any previous experience or knowledge.
YEP Technicians 18-25 will include the following:
• Understanding the basics of lighting, sound/QLab, stage and AV.
• Understanding theatre terminology and processes.
• Seeing shows and reflecting on technical theatre styles.
• Collaborative working.
• Increasing aspiration.
• Understanding the production process leading up to tech rehearsal/show days.
• Providing technical support for the YEP Actors main stage show and YEP Writers Showcase plus other opportunities to apply your skills.
• Taking part in masterclasses.
• Mentoring.
• Exploring creative opportunities.
• Working alongside our Technical Theatre team.
• Meeting other young people and networking to build your own community and connections.
• Engagement with the creative process of at least one professional production.
The group size is up to 12 people.

You should be:
• Aged 18-25.
• Living in Liverpool City Region (Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral).
• Creative.
• Imaginative.
• Open to ideas.
• Expressive.
• Willing to learn, play and make mistakes.
You could be:
• Interested in a career in the creative industry.
• Disengaged from education.
• Limited by opportunities in the arts.
• On an Education, Health and Care plan.
• A young carer.
• A care leaver.
• D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent.
• Global Majority.
• LGBTQIA+.
• In a job that is not creative.
• Studying or graduated and need some support to progress.
You would like to:
• Meet new friends.
• Be creative in a new space.
• Develop technical skills.
• Understand the role of a technician and apply your skills.
• Have somewhere to be safe and not judged.
• Build a network of creative people like you.
Who runs YEP Technicians 18-25?
Our outstanding team of professional theatre makers are experienced in making work with young people. Sessions will be delivered by our Young People & Community Technical Manager and you'll have the opportunity to train alongside the Technical Team too. Our Young People's Advocate will provide support throughout and can give guidance on submitting your application, setting personal goals and deciding your next steps at the end of your course. There will also be support from our Young People & Community Producer, as well as other creatives in our building.
What dates do I need to know?
YEP Technicians 18-25 runs from Wed 15 Jan until Wed 29 Oct 2025.
The deadline for applications is Sunday 3 November. We ask that you are available for the following dates to get the most from the programme.
• YEP induction: Sat 25 Jan 2025 1-3pm
• Weekly sessions: Wed 2-5pm
• Technical rehearsals and performances of The Snow Dragons: 7 Jul -13 Jul 2025
• Technical rehearsals and performances of Studio Show: 21 Jul - 27 Jul 2025
• YEP Writers' Showcase: 13 Oct - 18 Oct 2025

What happens next?
You will need to complete a short application form and then you will invited to an informal workshop where we will be meeting you to find out about your skills and experience.
Meetings and workshops with successful applicants will take place over 4 weeks from 11 Nov and there will be a choice of times for you to choose from. If you are unsuccessful, you will still be invited to meet us to discuss your application and next steps.
