A creative engagement project linked to The Suitcase, led by Levi Tafari

Working with Hector Peterson Court and the Unity Youth Centre, the project was based around the theme "a moment that changed my life". Through reminiscence activities, poetry performed by Levi and group discussion, each person identified a moment in their lives when something changed; a meeting, a decision, a move, a moment in time...

The Market Theatre Johannesburg company visit the Hector Peterson Centre in Toxteth.

The stories and poems created by the participants were displayed in the Playhouse Circle Bar during the Market Theatre Johannesburg’s UK premiere of The Suitcase at the Playhouse (4-7 Oct 2017).

Following themes of migration, journeys and hopes for a better life, the installation reflects the world of the play. Inside the suitcases, you'll find the stories and poems, shared as written text, audio recordings and film projections.
