What's more

5 minutes with Liam Tobin

What are the 3 things you love most in life?
My wife, my family and my friends. Corny but true!

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
When I was very young, a butcher, but only because I liked the white coat. I soon changed my mind when I realised what it actually meant!

What makes you happy?
Good food, good drink, good company.

What makes you angry?
I’m quite patient when it comes to people and the big stresses of life but its the little stupid stuff which makes me want to punch a wall.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Comic books, it really is time I grew up.

What’s exciting about returning to The Company this year?
Returning is such a privilege, it feels like we’ve never been away! Although we’ll all miss friends from last year it feels absolutely right to mix it up with new people and its exciting getting to work with them and old faces too.

What was your first experience of the Everyman?
John Doyle’s production of Much Ado About Nothing back in 1992.

If you could invite anyone for a drink in the bar who would it be and why?
Laurel & Hardy. Absolute masters of what they did and I’m sure lovely men. Loved them since I was a kid.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned as an actor or the best advice received?
Keep on learning, pushing yourself and above all always play the truth. Not always as easy or as pretentious as it sounds!

What’s your best memory from the last Everyman Company season?
So many, but if I had to name one, going to watch my friends in The Story Giant, the third show of the season last year.

What makes being part of The Company different from other acting jobs?
You get to play parts that you may not normally be cast in and work in different combinations with the same people over a long period of time which helps develop a very different and interesting working relationship.

What would be your dream part and why?
All of ‘em!

Where in Liverpool would you take people to visit?
There’s so many great bars and independent restaurants in the city now, so I hope we’ll get to visit a few of them!
