Fuse: Getting by // dance
Laurie Ogden
Spoken Word
Laurie is a poet and playwright from Merseyside. She is a Barbican Young Poet and winner of the 2015 Outspoken performance poetry award. She was also chosen to be a part of the BBC Words First Project. Her most recent play TWIX (2016) was labelled a "new writing triumph" (A Younger Theatre).
"Getting by was a strange theme to respond to because it sounds like quite an inoffensive casual theme at first, but the more I tried to explore it the more I realise that: 1) the basics involved in 'getting by' are becoming increasingly difficult for people of all ages, but especially the already vulnerable, and 2) focusing on 'getting by' as an individual can be used as an excuse for not looking closely at what is actually happening around you, and can stop you taking action/speaking out because you're focusing on yourself and keeping your head down."
