Max Stafford-Clark announces departure from Out of Joint
After 23 years of groundbreaking work and having led its recent successful four year funding application to the Arts Council of England Max Stafford-Clark announces today his intention to leave Out of Joint to focus on his international freelance career.
Under the company’s founding director Max Stafford-Clark, Out of Joint has become known for inquisitive, epic, authentic and original new writing. Premiering plays from established writers including April De Angelis, Sebastian Barry, Richard Bean, Alistair Beaton, Caryl Churchill, David Edgar, David Hare, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Robin Soans and Timberlake Wertenbaker he has also launched the careers of others such as Mark Ravenhill and Stella Feehily.
Max Stafford-Clark’s productions have been presented in all the major theatre centres of the world including in New York, Sydney Theatre Festival, Dublin, Berlin, Toronto and across the UK.
Prior to founding Out of Joint Max Stafford-Clark was Artistic Director of the Royal Court Theatre (London) from 1979-1993.
Out of Joint recently welcomed a new Joint Artistic Director, Kate Wasserberg. Kate founded Cardiff’s The Other Room in 2014; two years later it was named Fringe Theatre of the Year by The Stage.
Max’s production of Andrea Dunbar’s Rita, Sue and Bob Too, jointly directed by Kate Wasserberg is at the Playhouse, Tuesday 10 October to Saturday 14 October.
