Williamson Square

A VISION FOR A NEW WILLIAMSON SQUARE

Originally laid out in 1745 and last refurbished in 2004, the time has come for a conversation about Williamson Square.

What should be a vibrant gathering place in the heart of Liverpool city centre is more akin to a cut through, a place people use to get to somewhere else rather than a destination to enjoy.

Liverpool City Council, together with Liverpool BID Company and the Everyman & Playhouse, are hosting a two month long public consultation to ask you what you think should be done to breathe new life into this historic square.

The partners have devised four key themes to steer the debate on the future direction of the square, which also lies within the buffer zone of Liverpool’s World Heritage Site. They are:

  • Re-imagine the square’s potential – both day and night.
  • Re-animate the square with a revitalised Playhouse Theatre at its heart.
  • Re-connect the square to its surrounding areas.
  • Re-engage the public and surrounding businesses with an imaginative events programme and inspirational use of space.

The consultation to gain ideas will be run by PLACED, an award-winning Liverpool social enterprise, who will host events in the square on:

More than 1,000 feedback forms will be available for people to pen their suggestions – these forms will be available at the Playhouse Theatre, Marks & Spencer café and Sayers.
