Corrina Corrina’s New Audio Description Experience
With our dramatic new thriller Corrina Corrina well under way, we’d like to take a closer look at the amazing new ways we’re making this show more accessible than ever before.
Written by the fabulously talented Chloë Moss, Corrina Corrina follows the journey of a young woman as she prepares to board a cargo ship at Felixstowe docks. Following in the footsteps of her seafaring father, she’s given the role of Junior Officer, which unsurprisingly isn’t taken well by the all-male crew. Describing the ship as a ‘microcosm of society’, Corrina Corrina explores issues such as racism, misogyny, and power dynamics relating to life on and off dry land.
We’re so proud of this performance for many different reasons, but one of our favourite things about it is our new audio description available for audiences with visual impairments on all Corrina Corrina performance between 23 May and 4 June.
Where usually Anne Hornsby of Mind's Eye would write and then read the audio description live, this time she has written a very special script from the perspective of the character Rafael, which is pre-recorded by actor Martin Sarreal. This will not only provide even more accessible shows for our amazing audiences, but will also allow for more subjectivity within the audio descriptive experience. Listeners will now be able to hear exactly what Rafael is thinking, providing a fascinating insight into the character.
