A new thriller from award-winning Liverpool playwright Chloe Moss comes to the Everyman from 17th May to 4th June. Corrina, Corrina is set on a container ship bound from the UK to Singapore and is a co-production between the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and Headlong.
Corrina, following in her seafaring father’s footsteps, boards a cargo ship set for Singapore. Not everyone is pleased to have her aboard… and not everyone will make it to their final destination. This gripping thriller set at sea explores what happens when we think no one is watching us. A story of power dynamics, superstitions and revenge.
Chloe Moss is a playwright and screenwriter who has previously written Love, Liverpool and The Way Home for the theatres. She won the Susan Smith Blackburn Playwriting Prize in 2009 for her play This Wide Night, with worked staged at Manchester Royal Exchange, London’s Royal Court, Soho Theatre. Speaking about the inspiration behind Corrina, Corrina she said: “What was fascinating in my research was realising there’s a sense of lawlessness that comes in shipping and on board ships. You’re in the middle of the ocean and there’s no jurisdiction around a crime that may happen on that ship. There’s lots of instances where potential crimes have taken place and so it felt really ripe to tell a story that is set where essentially everyone is trapped in a huge floating prison.”
This world premiere is directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director Holly Race Roughan (Metamorphoses) and will feature integrated audio description into the staging.
The cast includes Laura Elsworthy (Romeo & Juliet for Hull Truck and Northern Girls) plays the title role of Corrina, with David Crellin (Kes at the Liverpool Playhouse and West Side Story at Manchester Royal Exchange) as the Captain. The rest of the crew includes Liverpool actor Mike Noble (Help and Trigger Point for tv) as Will; James Bradwell (My Night with Reg at the Turbine and Romeo & Juliet for Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre) as Angelo; Angelo Paragoso (Paper Dolls for Tricycle Theatre and The Report at the National Theatre) as Rizal; and Martin Sarrel (Sin at the Royal Court and U.Me: The Musical for BBC World Service) as Rafael.
Corrina, Corrina is at the Everyman 17 May to 4 Jun 2022.
