A Lovely Word, downstairs at the Everyman, is Liverpool’s most eclectic poetry night.

It features two halves of open mic poets, and a headliner beginning the first half. This free event is a fun, relaxed and friendly evening of performance poetry. Take a look below at the headliners we have coming up over the next few months.

HEADLINER THU 3 OCT

Shak

Poet - Project leader - Facilitator - A human - Shak 

Shak is an international poet who has headlined multiple shows across the East & West Midlands. He is the producer of over 60 poetry videos in addition to curating sold out live events in the name of Spoken Lyrik, an online platform for spoken word artists looking to showcase their work. Professionally Shak works as a housing officer supporting those that face homelessness. Trained as a drama teacher & fitness instructor, Shak has delivered many workshops in a plethora of face-to-face roles. All contributing towards being part of a community, which is one of Shak’s core values. Shak’s poetry touches on a variation of topics displaying his ability to draw inspiration from anywhere.

TICKETS

The event is free of charge and holds up to 76 people. Attendees are welcome to arrive on the evening, and most audience places are allocated on the door. However, a small number of places will be available to reserve in advance from the box office - we just ask that you arrive no later than 7.45pm (fifteen minutes before the start of the event) to be guaranteed entry, or the place may be released.

II) turning up Downstairs at the Everyman at 7.30 (slots are VERY limited so emailing is a preference)
When signing up to perform, you are signing up to these principles of the open mic.

Caleb Nichols
Caleb Nichols

Caleb Nichols is a musician and poet from California. With records and EPs out via US indie label Kill Rock Stars and books published with indie presses in the UK and US, Nichols has been writing, recording, and performing their poetry and music in cities on both sides of the Atlantic, playing and reading in Glasgow, London, Paris, Bologna, New York, Los Angeles and many other cities and towns in between. 

Nichols first book of poems was called ‘a gorgeous abundance’ by poet Chen Chen, and their second was called ‘marvelously queer’ by Eduardo Corral. They have also garnered international press in places like the Guardian, and Shindig Magazine in the UK, The Irish Times in Ireland, Magic Revue in France, and Rumore Mag in Italy. 

In short, from 2021 to 2024, Nichols is a creative force, tirelessly establishing themselves as an emerging poet and critic (with publications in academic journals and national poetry magazines such as the New England Review, Poetry Ireland, and Poetry Wales), as well as a musician whose output has garnered a cult following, particularly in the UK, where Caleb has been splitting his time for the last few years.

Our December Lovely Word herald’s the start of Christmas Festivities and will be a fun filled night of poetry with a party atmosphere. Featuring poetry, fun and games it’s a night not to be missed!
