A Lovely Word is back at its spiritual and literal home; downstairs at the Everyman, for this Special Homotopia edition of A Lovely Word.
A Lovely Word is Liverpool’s most eclectic poetry night, featuring two halves of open mic poets, and a headliner beginning the first half. Hosted by Alex Ferguson and Lyndsay Price, this free event is a fun, relaxed and friendly evening of performance poetry.
Jay Hulme is an award winning transgender performance poet, speaker and educator from Leicester. Alongside his writing and performing he teaches poetry, works to raise awareness of LGBT rights and inclusion, and performs sensitivity reads on manuscripts.
Jay writes books for readers of all ages, from age four all the way through to adulthood, and enjoys keeping people guessing as to what he’ll be writing next.
When he’s not working he enjoys and exploring old buildings, especially churches. As you read this he’s probably standing on top of a church tower, just taking in the view.
He has featured on and worked with, TED talk, Nationwide Building Society’s “Voices” advertising campaign, Amnesty International, The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, Stop Funding Hate, and The Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Awards. More about his work here; https://jayhulme.com

Following the recent wave of LGBTQIA hate crimes in the city, we are going for a full LGBTQIA open mic sign ups.

When signing up to perform, you are signing up to these principles of the open mic.

Before the fabulous Jay takes to the stage that night, we will be running a writing workshop 5.30-7pm with Jay Hulme, in the Bistro space (same as for the night).
