Situated between the two cathedrals on Hope Street, the Everyman theatre re-opened in March 2014 to great acclaim from audiences and critics, winning the RIBA Stirling Prize for architecture.

“Here all is a new-build, yet it has the ambience of an old building, in part down to the use of recycled and exposed brick in the major areas of auditorium, bars and circulation.” RIBA

Accessible and environmentally sustainable, the new theatre combines the trademark wrap-around auditorium with many new facilities. Our beautiful façade, representing 105 people of Liverpool, expresses the fact that this is truly an Everyman for everyone.

A history of the Everyman: Founded in 1964 in the appropriately named Hope Hall (once a chapel, then a cinema), the Everyman has built a reputation for ground-breaking work

What’s on: We have a visiting season where like-minded friends share their work with us and, of course, there’s the legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll panto at Christmas


Rebuilding the Everyman: The new theatre was 10 years in the planning and took over two years to build. Follow the journey that led to us scooping the 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize for architecture


Food & drink at the Everyman: We serve breakfast, lunch, pre-theatre and supper in the street café and programme regular events in the bistro. At the Playhouse, we have three bars offering pre-show drinks


Hope Street CIC: The Everyman is part of the Hope Street CIC, a collaboration of organisations working closely to enhance the experience and offer on what is regarded as the “Best Street in the UK” (Academy of Urbanism 2013)
