Talawa // Black Joy Seed Commissions

Supporting the development of new work by Black writers in Merseyside.
As part of the Black Joy season, Talawa and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse are offering seed commissions for two writers of African or Caribbean heritage to develop a new play, showcase work and build networks with the creative community in Liverpool.
The offer
- 2 x £1,250 seed commission
- dramaturgical support to develop your idea
- rehearsed reading at the Liverpool Playhouse Studio for invited audience
- networking events with Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, Talawa and an invited group of local Global Majority artists
- invitations to in-house Everyman & Playhouse productions.
The ask
We’re looking for writers who:
- have a new idea (or early work in progress) that they want to develop
- live in Liverpool City Region, and are exploring themes and topics that speak to our communities here
- would be supported in their artistic development by this opportunity.
The timeline
- Applications closed on Friday 4 October
- All applicants will be invited to a networking event with team members from Talawa and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, and to see Play On! at the Liverpool Playhouse (Wednesday 16 October).
- Four people will be invited to discuss their application in more detail at interview (w/b 4 November).
- Two people will receive a seed commission (decisions w/b 11 November).
- Writing and from December to March, with rehearsed readings w/b 24 March.
