You can’t control the truth…

Known as ‘James’ to his family and ‘Sir’ to his students, Mr Stephens is the kind of English teacher who thinks knowledge is “gorgeous”. And with a passion for his subject and fire in his heart, he hopes that one day the kids he teaches will learn to love it too.

But not every student makes his job easy, and some are near impossible to reach. Demi Lyons is a kid who other teachers call trouble, and when she joins James’s Year 10 GCSE group, he prepares himself for struggles ahead. What he doesn’t yet know is how far this job, and his life, are going to push him – or whether he’ll survive with his career, health or reputation intact.

Created by Liverpool writer Sean McLoughlin, Daffodils explores family, neglect and professional ambition. It asks if it’s possible for a teacher to care too much – and might the right thing also be terribly wrong?
