At Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, we believe creativity has the power to connect and transform lives.
The Merseyside Creative Recovery Network brings together artists, performers, makers and community groups from across the Liverpool City Region. Developed in partnership with Associate Professor Zoe Zontou from Liverpool Hope University, a leading academic in the field of creativity arts and recovery, the network supports people who are using the arts as part of their recovery.
Who we are
The Merseyside Creative Recovery Network is made up of people with lived experience of addiction and recovery and are representatives from partner organisations including Fallen Angels Dance Theatre, Transform Theatre Group, Spider Project, Pink Flamingos, Collective Encounters, The Choir with No Name and Rek 41. Together, they shape direction, highlight barriers, connect communities, and programme an annual event. Members have proudly chosen the name Merseyside Creative Recovery Network to reflect their collective voice, shared purpose and regional impact.
The group champions creativity as a force for wellbeing, confidence and purpose as outlined in their manifesto.
What we do
The Merseyside Creative Recovery Network meet monthly sessions to share ideas, co-design opportunities, build creative leadership skills, and advocate for accessible, stigma‑free arts spaces within the city. These meetings have already resulted in new partnerships, groups making the Everyman their creative home, and members developing their own independent creative projects.
A Creative Home at the Everyman
The Everyman has now become a regular home for community groups in recovery.
Groups such as Fallen Angels, Transform Theatre Group, Imagine and others now run sessions, rehearse or meet regularly in our building, creating a lively, welcoming and sober creative hub.
This is something we are proud of: recovery communities shaping and sharing our spaces, not as visitors, but as part of our artistic family.
Annual Creative Recovery Event
Every year, the group co‑curates a celebration event on the Everyman main stage, spotlighting artists in recovery. The 2025 showcase welcomed 80 performers and makers whose work demonstrated extraordinary talent, courage, collaboration and joy.
