Live, lit and 'turned up a bit'

Recruitment to join YEP Technicians 14-17 opens in Tuesday 25th February and closes Sunday 30th March.

If you’re aged 14-17 with an interest in what happens behind the scenes, this group meet weekly on Tuesdays from 5pm-7pm.

Sessions guided by our team of professional artists, gives you the opportunity to be practical, creative, understand equipment and explore all aspects of working behind the scenes. You’ll learn skills that can contribute to a future career in production arts or simply build confidence and self-esteem.

This activity is free and you don’t need any previous experience or knowledge.

Here's all you need to know

YEP Technicians 14-17 will include introductions to the following

•   Stage Management
•   Lighting
•   Sound and AV
•   Production Management/Health and Safety
•   Set Design

You will also

•   Work collaboratively.
•   Develop confidence, resilience and social skills.
•   Increase aspiration.
• Technically support the YEP Actors 14-17 shows.
•   Take part in masterclasses.
•   Receive mentoring.
•   Explore creative opportunities.
•   Go on trips and see theatre.
•   Meet other young people and network to build your own community and connections.

The group size is up to 12 people.

You should be

•   Aged 14-17.
•   Living in Liverpool City Region (Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral).
•   Creative.
•   Imaginative.
•   Open to ideas.
•   Expressive.
•   Willing to learn, play and make mistakes.

You could be

•   Interested in a career in the creative industry.
•   Disengaged from education.
•   Limited by opportunities in the arts.
•   On an Education, Health and Care plan.
•   A young carer.
•   In care.
•   D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent.
• Global Majority.
•   LGBTQIA+.

What dates do I need to know?

The deadline for applications is Sun 30 March. Other dates you need to know are:

Tuesday 18^th March – 4-5pm – Open Day
Tuesday 1^st April – 5:30-7pm – Recruitment Session
Tuesday 8^th April – 5:30-7pm – Recruitment Session – please note that they only have to come to one recruitment session but there is a choice of two dates
22nd April – Programme begins – runs weekly on Tuesdays 5-7pm
24^th June – event that the group will create
31st July – last session and evaluation

Who runs YEP Technicians 14-17?

Our outstanding team of professional theatre makers are experienced in making work with young people. Sessions will be delivered by our Young People & Community Technical Manager and you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside the Technical Team too. Our YEP Mentor will provide support throughout and can give guidance on submitting your application, setting personal goals and deciding your next steps at the end of your course. There will also be support from our Young People & Community Producer, as well as other creatives in our building.
